Territories Within: Observing Forest Park
Through a series of abstractions, the project emerges as an observational vessel with a reciprocal relationship to its surrounding site, a chosen territory within Forest Park. Focused conditions of the territory and its latent qualities -- namely, transparencies and overlays -- were captured and analyzed through line drawings, abstractions, relief models, and cubes that eventually informed a final project that responds to its surroundings.

Centered around a pair of trees that lean on each other and intertwine, the proposed observatory in Forest Park is a culmination of an exploration of transparencies and overlays. These concepts were translated into certain repeated motifs: extended lines capable of creating solidity, structural support, and territory-specific geometries, as well as dissolved corners and elements that round the boundary of “edges.”
